Addressing

Deliver your items to the right customers at the right time. UniPrint’s addressing capabilities include single sheets, folded brochures, booklets and even catalogs.

Fast Facts and Useful Tips

  • All mailers require a 1.5 inch by 3.75 inch white address block for addressing purposes.
  • All mail pieces that use the Non-Profit permit 711 need to have The Ohio State University in the return address.
  • Booklet style envelopes are preferred for 9x12 or larger.
  • Self-mailers require the fold at the bottom of the piece (example below).
  • Excel or Comma Delimited Files are the preferred database format.
  • All mail pieces require the proper indicia, unless going to campus mail; contact addressing services for more information.
  • Do not include any fields that are not required for mailing!

Address Certification

Before mailing, each address in your list is verified, corrected and standardized per the United States Postal Service’s standards — even those who have changed their address. UniPrint’s certification processes reduce your preparation time and limit the number of undeliverable pieces while also ensuring fast delivery and saving you money. We will even send you the revised list for your records.

Insertion

Stuffing, sealing and metering mailings are labor intensive, time consuming and costly. UniPrint’s automated insertion process makes it easier than ever. Any combination of return envelope, folded brochure, or single card — up to 4 pieces — can be inserted into a standard #10 business-size envelope. And envelopes are automatically sealed and metered with postage.

Mailing List Integration

UniPrint is the only printer that has access to university faculty and staff mailing lists. We also can handle any custom mailing list you may have. Just email your list to addressing@osu.edu. The following formats are accept - Excel (preferred), Access, text delimited (ASCII text), comma delimited (CSV) and DBF format (dBase) file formats. Please “zip” all files.

USPS Folded-Mailer Requirements

8.5 x 11 portrait view mailer file divided into three horizonal panels with the same height. Mailing address must be printed in the middle panel only.

MUST BE ADDRESSED ON THE “CLOSED” PANEL

The United States Postal Service requires all folded self-mailers to be addressed on the “closed” panel. This requirement is illustrated above. Mailers that fail to meet this specification are subject to an additional surcharge per item.

Prior to printing, UniPrint will make every effort to identify folded self-mailers that do not meet this requirement, but is ultimately not responsible for delays or additional costs that are incurred for non-conforming items sent to the United States Postal Service.

Flat Addressing Requirements

8.5 x 11 portrait view mailer file divided into two horizonal panels with the same height. Mailing address must be printed in the top panel and may not be printed upside down.

Address placement and formatting requirements adopted by the US Postal Service® apply to First Class and Non-Profit Mail flat size pieces sent at automation, presorted or carrier route prices.

The address cannot read upside down and must be within top half of mailpiece. For enveloped or polywrapped pieces, the “top” of the mailpiece is either of the shorter edges. For pieces that are not enclosed in envelopes or polywrap, the “top” is the upper edge when the bound edge (or the final fold) is vertical and on the right side of the piece. Once the top edge is determined, measure halfway down the piece, and that’s the top half.
